In a culture that resists kings, Christians make a bold confession: Jesus is King. From the founding of our nation, Americans have been wary of concentrated power, rejecting monarchy and even debating the risks of a single president. Yet Scripture presents a different kind of King—one who rules with justice, peace, and righteousness (Isaiah 9:6–7).
The question is not just whether we believe Jesus is King, but whether we truly live like it. A king has authority, and a kingdom reflects his will. The kingdom of God is not bound by borders; it is present wherever God’s will is done—where light pushes back darkness.
Jesus teaches us to pray, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” This reveals both a reality and a mission. God’s kingdom is already breaking through, yet not fully here. And remarkably, Jesus entrusts us with “the keys” to participate in that work (Matthew 16).
So what are we doing with those keys? In our homes, workplaces, and communities, we have opportunities to bring peace, love, and justice. Every act of obedience expands the kingdom.
Jesus is King—and we are invited to live and act like citizens of His kingdom.
