The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry | Week 1

Hurry has become one of the defining features of modern life. We rush from one responsibility to the next, often becoming less attentive to God, to the people we love, and even to what is happening within our own souls. Over time, this hurried pace can leave behind emotional and spiritual damage.
Jesus offers another way. When he says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” he is not only inviting us to believe his teachings or receive eternal life. He is also inviting us to adopt his way of living. The lifestyle of Jesus was deeply unhurried, attentive, and connected to the Father.
In Matthew 11, Jesus invites the weary and burdened to take his yoke and learn from him. A yoke represented a rabbi’s teaching and way of life. Jesus is therefore offering us a lifestyle that fits the human soul better than the exhausting alternatives promoted by our culture. His way leads to genuine rest.
We fight hurry by practicing the way of Jesus. Through Sabbath, solitude and silence, simplicity, and intentionally slowing down, we create space to become more present to God and others. The goal is not merely a less crowded schedule, but a life increasingly shaped by Jesus.
